After the success of the first Well-Preserved Shop Interiors (2014), heritage expert Katherine Ennekens gathered once again—in her second book (2023)—a series of beautifully preserved shop interiors from across Belgium.
It is an ode to the shopkeepers who have not renovated their interiors for a long time and thus, sometimes without any deliberate plan, ended up with a wonderfully vintage look today. Some shop interiors feature exceptional design; others were built with materials that have become rare today. All of them are unique and tailor-made for their spaces.
Author and researcher Katherine Ennekens is an interior architect specializing in heritage. In 2014, she wrote her first book on this subject. After extensive searching, she once again found forty valuable interiors in Belgium. She spoke with the shopkeepers and worked together with photographer Bart Kiggen to capture them. This book is a call to owners, customers, and the government to cherish and preserve this fragile heritage.
