‘Paintings’. The term chosen by Johan Creten for the 27 pieces created at Alfred University, in the State of New York, betrays the singular nature of this project developed in the quiet, sylvan environment of this major center for international ceramics. Twenty-seven works, 27 stations on a logical, almost necessary way of the cross. Freed from constraints and categories, when sculpture is reconciled with painting. Twenty-seven stakes thrust into idleness, 27 banderillas thrust into continence, that unpunished vice.
