Without the Scheldt, a port would be no more than a distant dream for Antwerp. It is the Scheldt that connects the port to the rest of the world. It is the Scheldt that brings ships from all continents to the heart of Europe. It is the Scheldt that turned Antwerp into the world harbor that it is today.
In this report, our first assignment for the Port Authority, we did not only want to show how the past year had been for the port. We also wanted to pay tribute to the river that had made everything possible. We followed the Scheldt from the source to the estuary, from Saint-Quintin to Vlissingen, from small brook to mighty stream. With attractive pictures we paid homage to the river that deserved it as no other. For the photography we made appeal to the then newly qualified photographer Katrien VERMEIRE.
