Go out with Elsschot, 2007
On May 7, 2007 it was 125 years ago that William Elsschot was born. The writer was celebrated in Antwerp with a special birthday weekend GO OUT WITH ELSSCHOT, on May 19 and 20. This event was the start of the four-year program THE CITY OF ELSSCHOT. For this project we had to develop a visual style, within the house style of the City of Antwerp. This poster was the first realization for Antwerp Book Capital and the start of a long collaboration with this organization. The project runs until the end of 2010.
The program of the anniversary weekend celebration included literary walks, depth interviews, cheerful and serious lectures, concerts and dry stand-up comedy. On more than twenty locations, the work of the master was remembered during two days.
The weekend officially started on Saturday May 19, 2007 with the unveiling of a bronze plate at the famous statue of Willem ELSSCHOT 1994 at the Mechelseplein. The Mechelseplein was called the 'Elsschot Square' for two weeks. Agfa Graphics and the City of Antwerp placed a 600 meter long canvas, designed by Catapult, with particularly images of ELSSCHOT and the full text of Het Dwaallicht.
